You know Tom DeLonge, formerly of Blink 182? He was the guitar player who wanted Blink to become a serious band, as opposed a band who sings about picking your nose. The other guys in Blink never wanted to get serious so DeLonge started side-project band after side-project band chasing his muse. He was never able to pull it off and he left Blink in frustration last year.
Well, Belly Up is the band he was always trying to sound like.
Hailing from Burlington, VT and formerly known as Uppercut, Belly Up's name change and new lease on life produced remarkable results. Sonically, I'm reminded of A Day To Remember, minus all of that band's metalcore trappings, as well as Face To Face with a dash of Jawbreaker. The songwriting is fresh and the playing is electric. Belly Up has a classic punk sound without degenerating into a nostalgia trip. Very impressive.
Now, we just need one of the hotshot ATX promoters to bring Belly Up down here. I can't wait to hear more from this dynamic band. Highly recommended.
